St. Patrick's School: EcoSchool Garden 2010
We volunteered our time in the summer of 2010 to help the St. Patrick's School Eco-Kids Team build a new children's garden as part of the Ecoschools Program. We had so much fun with the kids and all the volunteers - the community support was fantastic and Paul and I were able to round up thousands of dollars worth of donated materials including soil, sitting stones, and machine rentals. Careful shopping and the dividing of plants allowed us to fill in the gardens at a minimal cost. On the wish list was an outdoor classroom, places to explore, colourful kid friendly flowers, and easy maintenance. Two years later and the garden bursts with colour, the drought tolerant perennials have filled in and offer a new home for butterflies. The gardens have been lovingly maintained by the students and staff of the Eco-Kids team and their efforts have been deservingly recognized - Kingston Blooms Winner 2011 (Educational) and 2012!!
